At least one person was killed, and 41 others injured following gas explosion during rush hour where the road cave in and resulted in several vehicles being flung from the road by the force of the blast.

Party leader and member of parliament Ganief Hendricks said the president must call a similar meeting like he did when the July 2021 unrests erupted in KwaZulu-Natal and Johannesburg.

“The president must give us the assurance that the intelligence cluster is on top of things and that we do not have a repeat of what happened in Soweto in 2019,” he expressed.

Hendricks further called on the minister of police that the precincts of the explosion be considered as a crime scene.
