This marks a historic first, as he becomes the inaugural local practitioner to earn this rank under the guidance of Shihan Chris Seabelo.

This accomplishment is celebrated in conjunction with the karate school’s 40th anniversary, underscoring a legacy of excellence in martial arts education and practice within the region.

On March 14, a historic karate grading event was held at Ellis Park Arena, overseen by esteemed international Japanese masters along with the South African JKA Chief Instructor.

This event was a pivotal moment in Tau’s lifelong journey in martial arts and also represented a key development in the legacy of karate within the North West province, highlighting the importance of such milestones in promoting and advancing the practice of karate in the region.

Starting from humble origins, Tau began his karate journey at age 11 in Mafika Village, Rustenburg, training under Sempai Aubrey Molobi of the Kanana Karate Association.

His progress through the ranks was driven by discipline, resilience, and exceptional talent, earning his senior black belt at just 17 while finishing his education at Sekete High School.

Over the decades, Tau has built a prominent career not only as a competitor but also as a leader in the field of karate.

Representing South Africa on the international stage, Tau has made significant contributions to the promotion and development of grassroots karate, emphasizing the importance of nurturing talent from the grassroots level in the sport.

Sensei Tau expressed that achieving 5th Dan in Karate symbolizes more than personal success; it serves as an inspiring message for youth.

He emphasizes that one’s circumstances do not determine their future, highlighting how karate imparts discipline, respect, and purpose.

“His 5th Dan is more than a personal achievement; it’s a victory for our entire organization and a symbol of what can be accomplished through dedication.

“I am very proud to have mentored the first 5th Dan produced from within our ranks. He will inspire future generations,” said Seabelo.
