President Cyril Ramaphosa kicked off the ANC’s local government campaign on Monday. Addressing nearly 5,000 party councillors in a meeting at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg - Ramaphosa dropped a bombshell by endorsing the opposition. "Those municipalities that do best, are not ANC-controlled municipalities - and I can name it here because there's nothing wrong with competition, they are often DA-controlled municipalities. "We need to ask ourselves, what is it that they are doing - that is better than what we are doing. "And there's nothing wrong with us saying, we want to go and see what Cape Town is doing. We want to go and see, what Stellenbosch is doing. "How do they craft everything, we need to be moving up the ladder of being good at what we do. "We cannot forever stay at the bottom. It hurts me deeply when I continue to see that our municipalities sometimes turn to move even backwards," he stated.

Ten more illegal miners have resurfaced from underground at the Stilfontein mine on Saturday. According to the Police, nine of them are Mozambican nationals and one is a Zimbabwean national.

Following President Cyril Ramaphosa's addresses ordering the closure of spaza shops implicated in the deaths of children from food poisoning with immediate effect. He further announced that all spaza shops must be registered. Police have continued to effect arrest as more Zama-Zama's resurface at the disused Stilfontein mine shaft in North West. It is believed that there are over 4 000 illegal miners underground. However, addressing members of the media, National Police Spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, refuted these claims, describing it as an exaggeration. Mathe also said officers will not be going underground to rescue illegal miners. Meanwhile, there have been mixed reactions to Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni’s utterances on illegal miners who have been refusing to come to the surface, fearing arrest. The miners have reportedly run out of basic necessities and are said to have been surviving on a mixing salt, vinegar and toothpaste to survive. Speaking at a post cabinet briefing earlier in the week, Ntshavheni said government will not be sending help to ‘criminals’ but will instead smoke them out.

Chaos erupted at Tshwane municipal chamber during a council meeting leading to two Democratic Alliance members forcefully removed by security. According to Cilliers Brink, DA Tshwane Caucus Leader, Kwena Moloto and Katlego Makgaleng were 'kicked out' after posing “challenging questions” during the session. He stated that when challenging questions were raised, and not met with answers, Deputy Mayor Eugene Modise demanded for their removal. "This incident is part of a troubling trend. The Speaker has repeatedly failed to protect councillors from documented ANC and EFF assaults, and now actively targets his opponents," he remarked. Brink revealed that they will open cases against the Speaker and those involved in this assault on democracy. He added; "We remain resolute in fighting for the people of Tshwane." ActionSA interim National Chairperson Michael Beaumont lashed out at the DA, and said his same party celebrates the removal of other parties for being disruptive. "The efforts to disrupt the business of Tshwane Council yesterday were both deliberate and responded to with frequent warnings which were repeatedly ignored. "The two DA councillors were disruptive and warned repeatedly to stop. They didn't. They were again warned that if they continued they would be removed and they continued."
