Media personality Molemo ‘Jub Jub’ Maarohanye has been arrested following a shooting incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale on Sunday morning.

The 45-year-old is facing charges for kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm and defeating the ends of justice.
The recent arrest of the television presenter and musician connected to the show “Uyajola 9/9” marks another legal challenge in a series of court disputes that have consistently attracted significant media attention.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, a situation emerged around 7:30am involving an e-hailing driver who had just dropped off a female passenger at a residence in Edenvale.
During this time, the driver was confronted by the suspect, who accused him of having a romantic involvement with his girlfriend.
“The suspect allegedly forced the e-hailing driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving. During the incident, the suspect reportedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver.
“The e-hailing driver managed to escape unharmed and immediately drove to a nearby police station to report the matter. Police acted swiftly and arrested the suspect shortly after the incident. Investigations are continuing,” she stated.
Sibeko said the suspect is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Jub Jub’s run-in with law
In 2022, Jub Jub was implicated in serious allegations by his former girlfriend, Amanda du Pont, who accused him of rape and domestic abuse during their relationship from 2006 to 2010.
Following her accusations, three additional women, including journalist Masechaba Ndlovu, also came forward with similar allegations against Jub Jub.
The situation escalated when Jub Jub surrendered to police in 2023 after a warrant for his arrest was issued on charges that included rape, attempted murder, and assault.
However, in 2024, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) withdrew all charges against him, citing a lack of reasonable prospects for a successful prosecution.

Prior to these allegations, in 2010, Jub Jub was involved in a tragic drag racing incident that resulted in the deaths of four schoolchildren, leading to his arrest.
He was initially convicted of murder and attempted murder and received a 25-year prison sentence.
This conviction was appealed, and in 2014, the Supreme Court of Appeal modified the charges to culpable homicide, indicating insufficient evidence of intent to kill.
Consequently, his prison term was reduced to a total of eight years, and he was granted parole in 2017.
